Get To Know Me Games

Step To the Line If…

  • Split the students up into two groups and have one group stand on one side of a line, and the other group on the other side of the line, to be about 3 feet apart.
  • Teacher says, “step to the line if …… and if this applies to a student they step up to the middle line and then step back.
  • Allow students to ask their peers questions

This game is great at the beginning of the year to get to know your students better, and to allow them to get to know one another better.

Take a Walk in the Rain if…

  • Students sit in a circle; teacher reads out a statement “take a walk in the rain if …. if this applies to a student they stand up, walk fully around the circle, and then sit back down in their original spot
  • Allow students to ask their peers questions

Name and Act…

  • Students stand in a circle, the teacher says their name, everyone repeats it back in a call response format. The student to the right of the teacher will then say their name, and the rest of the class will respond with their name.
  • On the second round of the circle, the students will all say their name as well as they will act out an action that they like to do (swim, read, rise horses etc.) they will act this out with their bodies.

This game is great to learn about your students, and what they enjoy doing in their spare time.

Imaginary Ball…

  • Students stand in a large circle. Teacher starts with an imaginary ball in their hand, holding it in their hands cupped.
  • Teacher picks someone else in the circle and call out their name and blow the ball to them.
  • The person who catches the ball, it is their turn to pick someone and pass the ball
  • You could do this with other objects rather than a ball

Paparazzi…

  • Students pair up and spread out across the room.
  • Teacher yells “action” each person grabs their imaginary camera and takes a picture of their partner while calling out their name
  • Whoever calls out their name and takes a picture first wins
  • Allow this to go on for a couple rounds, then switch partners with a different group

Come Sit Beside Me…

  • Students all sit in a big circle
  • One student starts by saying “I want ___ to come sit next to me”,
  • The person that got picked, moves spots and goes and sits next to the person that just called their name
  • The person on the right of the person that left goes next and says, “I want ___ to come sit next to me” and so on)
