My Weaving

For this project, we did cardboard loom weaving! This was SOOO much fun! A lot of my classmates have woven other things before like paper, or some had used yarn, but I had never done anything this before, so I was really looking forward to it!

I began by getting my cardboard all set up, by cutting slits into it:

I then used my cotton twine to make my warp:

I then began my weaving! I chose to do mine with a few different colours, but I started with a burgundy red colour:

Once I was done with that colour, I moved onto the next, I chose a light blue colour, and then I did a light pink!

Finally, I was able to snip off the cotton twine, and tie off my yarn to get my finished project!

Artist Statement

Overall, I really did enjoy this project, however I think if I were to ever do it again, there is a few things I would do differently. I think I began my weaving with my yarn too loose, which led to me halfway through having to tighten it, but this didn’t work out too well, which then led to my warp being extra tight, which then…. led to my weave being too loose when I took it off the cardboard. I didn’t really go into this project with a specific plan of the colours I wanted to use, but I knew I wanted to do more than 1 colour. The yarn I found was actually the 3 colours I used, but they were all braided together, so before I began this weaving assignment I spent quite a bit of time unbraiding. Again, something I would not do again! Silly me.

I did really enjoy this project and it was very peaceful, I thought it was going to take me a lot of brain power to be able to stick with the “over, under” pattern, but once I got the hang of it, I was able tp just put a show on the TV, and get it done! I think this would be a really great activity to do with younger students, and I think the idea of tying it onto a branch, and adding something like googly eyes makes it 10x more fun! I am grateful to have learnt how to do this activity!
