Story Games

The Follower

  • Read The Follow book to the students, have dramatic quiet music playing in the background for more dramatic effect
  • Then have the students act it out- one student is the cat; one student is the witch then switch.
  • Do the 4 actions the witch does (stomp, spit, wave stick, “go away”) do this like red light green light style

New Boots for Winter

  • Step up to the line if… (your shoes have laces; your shoes have stripes)
  • Read the book
  • Mantle of the expert: give the student the “a shoe description” sheet, see attached document attached and have the students go into groups of 3, and pick 1 student’s shoe and have them describe the shoe on the paper.
  • Once students have done this, give them a large paper and have them draw their own creative shoe idea (ones that tie themselves, ones that self-temperature regulate etc.)
  • Have them do a brief explanation of their shoe to the class- this can be done in an add style

The Magic Beads:

  • Read the book
  • Split the class into groups of 4
  • Have each group come up with a “show and tell” of a toy they can make up, or one they know of
  • Have one student do the show and tell pitch to the class
